Sadly, its raining Royal Star Magnolia petals; and, that can only mean the 2015 show is on its way out. This week has been an amazing week for Magnolia stelleta 'Royal Star' ... seasonal temperatures, lots of sun and no harsh weather (unlike last year). This small, multi-trunk tree is an excellent specimen for the border or focal point. Plant it in well drained soil with full to part sun and it will reward you for decades with an early April show and a spicy sweet fragrance that is intoxicating. In full leaf, its rounded shape is a backdrop to later blooming perennials.
